Getting Over It
What Is Getting Over It?
Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy is a physics-based climbing game created by Bennett Foddy. You control a character stuck in a pot who uses only a hammer to climb a bizarre mountain made of random objects.
There are no checkpoints—if you fall, you lose progress. The challenge comes entirely from mastering awkward, momentum-based movement. It’s famous for being both frustrating and oddly rewarding, turning failure into part of the experience.
How to Play
The goal is simple: climb to the top of the mountain.
You move your hammer to:
- Hang on to surfaces
- Push yourself up
- Swing over gaps
Progress is slow and needs to be exact. Be patient because one mistake can send you all the way down.
Game Controls
Controls are minimal but tricky to master:
- Mouse movement → Controls the hammer
- Push/pull motion → Move the character
- Circular motion → Swing or launch yourself
There are no buttons for jumping or walking—everything depends on how you move the hammer. That’s what makes it feel so unique (and difficult).
Strategy
This game is strictly single-player, so instead of team building, it’s all about personal skill and mindset:
- Go slow and steady: Rushing almost always leads to mistakes. Careful movements give you better control.
- Learn from each fall: Every failure teaches you something about angles, momentum, or timing.
- Master small movements: Tiny adjustments are often safer than big swings.
- Use momentum wisely: Swinging can help you reach far places—but it can also backfire badly.
- Stay calm: Frustration leads to sloppy play. Ironically, patience is your strongest “skill.”
